Bridge Control Center Heerhugowaard

Heerhugowaard

Project

Sustainable business card for the province

GPR score: 9.15

Improving traffic flow on roads and waterways: that is the ambition the PNH wants to achieve with the new 24-hour bridge control centre. The power station, from which more than 40 bridges and locks will be remotely controlled, will be located at the Zandhorst business park where the Support Point for Road Maintenance is already located. This obsolete support point will be completely renewed and functions will be integrated with the power station wherever possible. The design of the sustainable, energy-neutral building is based on the ideas of circular construction: the unbundling of support, installations, shell and dismantling and the use of renewable and reusable raw materials. The power station consists of two volumes. In the plinth are the workshop, the washing and changing rooms, the canteen and the shed. The facade is conceived in wood and in robust, prefabricated concrete that is provided with a print of tire tracks. The workstations for the bridge operators and the road inspectors are located in the raised and cantilevered volume. The facade is provided with a shiny metal, perforated skin in which the ripple of the water is depicted. The incidence of daylight plays an important role in the interior in which the use of natural materials predominates.
